Install CritterPal on a Mac

Four short steps. It takes about a minute.

  1. 1

    Download it

Click Download for Mac. A small .dmg file lands in your Downloads folder.

Free, macOS 14+, Apple silicon and Intel

The Mac download isn't up yet. It will be here soon.

  2. 2

    Drag it into Applications

Open the .dmg and drag CritterPal onto the Applications folder.

  3. 3

    Open it and say hi

Your critter drops onto your desktop. The first time, macOS may ask you to confirm. Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway.

  4. 4

Allow the screenshot, if you want it

The first time you tap the camera, macOS asks to allow Screen Recording. Allow it only if you want homework help.

Before you install

Is it safe?

Yes. It's a small app that runs on your Mac. It asks for Screen Recording only when you first tap the camera, and Input Monitoring only for its Enter-key spin, which you can skip. Until Apple has checked it, macOS asks you to confirm the first time you open it.

Will it slow my Mac down?

No. It uses about as much as a single browser tab, and it stops drawing when nothing moves, so it sits quietly while you work.

Do I need an account?

No. The free app works without one.

How do I quit or uninstall it?

Click its icon in the menu bar and choose Quit. To uninstall, drag CritterPal from Applications to the Trash.
